With Kobe Bryant on the shelf for the 2014 NBA All-Star Game, the Los Angeles Lakers will not have anyone participating in the annual event for the first time since the 1995-96 NBA season.

Even though Bryant won’t be playing in the All-Star Game due to a knee injury, Jodie Meeks wants the opportunity to participate in All-Star Weekend. Meeks was asked about the prospect of being in the 3-point Shootout and seems intrigued by the idea of competing according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin:

Jodie Meeks, a five-year veteran averaging career highs across the board, wants a chance to showcase his skills in the 3-point shootout on All-Star Saturday night.

“It would be nice,” Meeks said. “It would be fun.”

Currently, Meeks is shooting 41 percent from the beyond the arc which is a career-high for the fourth-year shooting guard. Meeks is also averaging 14.6 point per game, which is also a career-high.

Ironically enough, newcomer Kendall Marshall is leading the NBA in three-point percentage at 47.3 percent with Meeks the 25th best in the league in that category.

If Meeks does get the invite, the Lakers guard might be going up against some stiff competition. Stephen Curry, Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving and Kyle Korver may be among the contestants.
