Baron Davis Looking to Return to L.A., Join Lakers?

A recent article on CBS Sportsline mentioned that Baron Davis may be looking to return to Los Angeles after being traded from the Clippers to the Cleveland Cavaliers last season.

Cleveland drafted Kyrie Irving with the first overall pick in last July’s NBA Draft, and is eager to see what the rookie can do. This would leave Davis as the odd man out, meaning he might be looking for a new home.

Rumors have swirled saying Davis might be looking to join the New York Knicks, Charlotte Bobcats or Los Angeles Lakers. Davis clearly won’t want to sit behind a rookie, but he is still saying all the right things.

“[I’m] really looking forward to playing with, and mentoring, Kyrie. He’s so talented, creative, smart, has so much potential and could become a great cornerstone of the Cavaliers’ franchise for many years to come. I’ve been talking to him a lot this summer about NBA life, and in Cleveland, he’s going to learn so much from coach [Byron] Scott, who will be a great mentor as well.”

Would Davis fit well with the Lakers? They are a team that certainly needs help at the point guard position, but is bringing in an aging Davis really an improvement over an aging Derek Fisher and an aging Steve Blake? Davis might fit well in Mike Brown’s offensive scheme whereas he wouldn’t have been the right person for the job in Phil Jackson’s triangle.

Joining the Lakers would give Davis the chance to play with Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol, which would obviously take a lot of the offensive pressure off Davis. However, Davis would have to take a secondary role on the Lakers, and that has been something he hasn’t been able to do very well throughout his career.
