The Los Angeles Lakers got to visit President Barack Obama on Monday as a reward for winning their second consecutive championship. Rather than the usual meeting at the White House, the Lakers met Mr. Obama at the Boys and Girls Club of Washington D.C.
Obama, a well-known Bulls fan, made jokes concerning the Lakers and their frequent visits to the Presidential Palace in Washington D.C., and even made a quick jab at Los Angeles for losing to his beloved Bulls last Friday.
The President also explained why this particular meeting wasn’t at the White House, as is custom for these championship meetings. According to Mr. Obama, the Lakers frequent visits to the White House were getting old, and Kobe Bryant or Derek Fisher could lead their own tours of the President’s digs. The Lakers and the President teamed up with NBA Cares to provide community service for the local Boys and Girls Club.
