Byron Scott: Jeremy Lin, Ed Davis Could Be First Two Off Bench

Among the many stories to come out of last night’s 98-95 preseason victory over the Denver Nuggets was the obvious chemistry between Jeremy Lin and Ed Davis off the bench.

The two connected on numerous occasions out of the pick and roll with Lin hitting Davis on a couple of beautiful alley-oops. Following practice today, Scott spoke on their chemistry and playing a large role off the bench according to our own Serena Winters:

Davis and Lin were two of the best performances from last night’s game. Though Lin failed to record a field goal, his 10 assists were a game high, many of which went directly to Davis who finished with 12 points.

Just as important was both player’s efforts on the defensive end. Lin looked solid keeping players in front of him and limiting penetration, while Davis had four blocks and altered a couple of other shots.

If the Lakers are going to be successful, the bench will have to be a big reason why. The team has already suffered a major loss with Nick Young out eight weeks, but the team still has other options.

The combination of Lin and Davis offer speed and athleticism and the combination of those two, along with the rookies Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson, give the Lakers a formidable bench even without Young.
