The Los Angeles Lakers chose to roll the dice on Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell during the 2015 NBA Draft creating a promising young backcourt of the future. Russell will be paired with Jordan Clarkson in the backcourt and appears excited at the prospect.

Russell talked about playing alongside Clarkson next season saying the following, via Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

With the Lakers having to promising young prospects leading the way in the backcourt, the team will focus all their efforts into upgrading the frontcourt in NBA free agency. Los Angeles will court free-agents-to-be LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love, DeAndre Jordan and Greg Monroe.

If the Lakers are unable to lure in a big-name forward in free agency, the team still has a very promising future if Clarkson and Russell compliment each other well in Los Angeles. The NBA is a guard-driven league these days meaning the Lakers may finally have the right pieces to the puzzle to compete, but adding a forward like Aldridge or Love definitely makes this team a force to be reckoned with.
