The NBA has morphed into a guard-driven league over the last few years and the Los Angeles Lakers have lagged behind the rest of the league, especially at the point guard position. The team may have found its answer in All-Rookie First Team selection Jordan Clarkson, but questions remain as to whether he is better as a point or off-guard.

In their most recent pre-draft workout, one of the players participating was Utah point guard Delon Wright, who said he believes he can be one of the best guards in this draft class according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

Wright surely has plenty to offer teams as he is one of the more pure point guards in the draft. He has great size for the position at 6’5 with excellent court vision and is a great defender, averaging over two steals per game last season.

What worries scouts about Wright is his inconsistent shooting, as his jumper off-the-dribble is awful at this point and many teams took advantage of that in college. He is also not an excellent athlete and can struggle to finish at the rim.

Wright has a lot of competition at the point guard spot in this draft class. D’Angelo Russell and Emmanuel Mudiay are at the top of the class and most have Notre Dame’s Jerian Grant, Murray State’s Cameron Payne, and Duke’s Tyus Jones raked ahead of Wright as well. He is expected to be chosen in the late-first or early-second round, so Wright could be on the Lakers’ radar if the team wants to add another point guard.
