Derek Fisher Attends Informal Workouts at Lakers Practice Facility

With Derek Fisher currently still searching for a new team to sign with before next season, the five-time NBA champion is trying to stay in shape during the off-season. At this point in time, no title contenders have shown interest in Fisher and as a result he may have to settle for signing as a backup on a second tier team with little or no chance of making the playoffs next season.

On Tuesday, Fisher made an appearance at the Los Angeles Lakers practice facility in El Segundo, California according to LosAngeles.CBSLocal.com:

“Derek Fisher, who is a free agent, was also in hand along with 1st-year Laker Steve Nash for theses pre-training workouts.”

With Fisher unable to sign with the Lakers until March 15,2013, due to the restrictions in the new CBA, a reunion in Los Angeles is highly unlikely. There’s an outside chance that Fisher will hold out until March in order to rejoin his former team, but chances are he’ll sign elsewhere if given the opportunity or retire from the game altogether before that happens.

Fisher has been linked to a few teams over the off-season with the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks and Charlotte Bobcats as potential free-agent options, but has yet to sign with a new team.

The former Laker reportedly turned down the Bulls before the team signed Nate Robinson to play behind Kirk Hinrich while awaiting Derrick Rose’s return to the floor. There’s been no indication why Fisher turned down the offer from the Bulls, but it’s possible that he didn’t want to play third string once Rose was good to go.
