Team USA basketball has seen a resurgence ever since the disappointing finish in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. After that particular team settled for the Bronze medal, the team has gone 62-1 in international play.

One of the main reasons for their success has been Jerry Colangelo, who took over as USA Basketball chairman in 2005. Under Colangelo’s watch the team has won the Gold in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2010 World Championships, and most recently the 2012 London Olympics.

With speculation that Mike Krzyzewski will be stepping down as head coach of Team USA before the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, according to USA Today, Colangelo won’t be heading off anytime soon.

“I’ve decided I’m going to continue,” Colangelo told USA TODAY Sports. “I’m committed to our organization during this transition period. I want to make sure, as good as things are, that once the baton is handed over to someone it’s in even better shape. That’s the plan for these next four years.”

Colangelo has seen plenty of success during his time as chairman of USA Basketball, and hopes to bring home a third consecutive Gold medal.

He did comment on the report that the Olympics might become a 23-and-under event, but said it didn’t influence his decision.
