Only a few months removed from playing in the National Championship game for Kentucky, Julius Randle is already lending a helping hand to his former head coach, John Calipari.

Randle made a surprise appearance at Calipari’s basketball camp last week helping the kids run through drills. Randle talked to the media saying the following via WLKY.com:

“Not too long ago, I was in their position. I never really had this opportunity as a kid, but to give back to them, give them memories, that’s what matters,” said Randle. “First of all, Lexington is just a very special place to me. Coach has done a lot for me. Really took care of me and watched out for me. So to come back, give a little of my time in a place that’s special to me anyway, it’s a no brainer. I’d do it anytime for him.”

After his freshman season with the Kentucky Wildcats, Randle entered the 2014 NBA draft and was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the seventh overall pick. Randle is considered one of the most talented players in the draft with a potentially bright future wearing purple and gold.

Randle has a decent shot to become a starter in his first season with the Lakers. Los Angeles recently signed Carlos Boozer making it difficult for Randle to immediately jump into the starting lineup, but the consensus is he’ll get a considerable amount of playing time regardless.
