The point guard position hasn’t exactly been a strength for the Los Angeles Lakers over the past couple of seasons. In fact, with the number of injuries that have befallen on Lakers point guards the past two years, some would say it’s cursed.

Ronnie Price has managed to avoid that so-called curse and remain healthy this preseason and with injuries taking out every other Lakers point guard, Price got plenty of minutes in the Lakers’ win over the Utah Jazz and was one of the catalysts for the comeback. Afterwards, Kobe Bryant complimented the veteran point guard via Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

Though Price didn’t shoot the ball well, he added 10 assists, four steals, and a number of other plays that don’t show up on the box score. In a game full of impressive performances, Price’s was definitely one that stood out.

Signed just before training camp began, Price was one of the stars early in training camp, generating praise from both Kobe and head coach Byron Scott. His bulldog-like demeanor and commitment to defense are things that Scott values.

Though it took injuries to Steve Nash, Jeremy Lin and Jordan Clarkson for Price to get his opportunity, Price took complete advantage of his chance despite the circumstances surrounding it. Now he may have played himself into a spot on this roster for good.
