Kobe Bryant has a challenging off-season ahead of him as he recovers from his surgically repaired Achilles tendon injury. The Mamba has kept his fans up-to-date with his recovery process via his social media platforms since going down in mid-April against the Golden State Warriors.

Kobe has posted photos of himself going into surgery, a picture of his foot being operated on, a photo of his walking boot (which was removed yesterday) and even a picture of him undergoing physical therapy. When Kobe tweeted that he was coming off of his walking boot on Thursday, but needed a “medical mamba” shoe for extra heel support for his Achilles, one could only guess what a “medical mamba” shoe was.

Thanks to social media, now we know. Kobe tweeted another photo of himself walking (during physical therapy) in his new “medical mamba” shoes from Nike.

What might be even more amazing than the fact a pair of “medical mamba” sneakers actually exist, is that it only took Nike two weeks to conceptualize and produce these shoes.

While it’s great news to see Kobe moving forward in his rehab process, he still isn’t actually walking on his surgically repaired Achilles yet. Along with the Medical Mambas, Kobe is using a machine that reduces a certain percentage of his body weight to reduce the amount of pressure on his legs (as seen in the above photo). This is another huge step for Kobe in his recovery process that will hopefully enable him to be ready by the start of next season.
