Lakers Draft News: Six More Players To Workout Friday Including Devin Robinson

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers have been hard at work evaluating a number of draft prospects leading up to next Thursday’s NBA Draft. Recently their workouts have been more focused on the top players in the draft as Markelle Fultz, De’Aaron Fox, and Josh Jackson all came in this week while Lonzo Ball returns for a second workout on Friday.

Ball won’t be the only player the Lakers will be taking a look at, however, as six more players will be coming in for a workout. Chief among them is Florida wing, Devin Robinson:

Players scheduled to participate in the workout are as follows:

Jabari Bird (G, 6-6, 190, Cal)
James Blackmon Jr. (G, 6-4, 195, Indiana)
Tyler Cavanaugh (F, 6-9, 243, George Washington)
Isaiah Hicks (F, 6-9, 242, North Carolina)
Devin Robinson (F, 6-8, 195, Florida)
Michael Smith (G, 6-4, 195, California Baptist)

Robinson is the top player in this group and the only player currently slated to be taken in the most recent mock draft by Draft Express. The 6’8 wing has all the tools necessary to be an ideal 3-and-D wing at the next level. He has great length and athleticism, can guard multiple positions on defense, and hit 39.1 percent of his three-pointers at Florida last season.

Isaiah Hicks has the ideal measurables and athleticism of a power forward but didn’t show too much in three years at North Carolina. Nonetheless, his physical tools may be enough to see him edge into the backend of the draft. James Blackmon is an undersized shooting guard, but was a great shooter at Indiana, shooting over 42 percent from three-point range.

Jabari Bird, Tyler Cavanaugh, and Michael Smith are all expected to go undrafted, but a good showing in this setting could allow them to be brought into the Lakers’ summer league team potentially. The Lakers continue to bring in prospects in all draft ranges to be prepared for whatever may happen in the draft.
