Pau Gasol has been forced out of action in seven of the past eight games due to lingering effects of vertigo. Despite attempting a comeback last week against the Portland Trailblazers, Gasol admitted that he may have returned too early, and hasn’t played since.

Following the Lakers loss to the Houston Rockets last night, Gasol told reporters his season may be over, via ESPN Los Angeles’ Dave McMenamin:

“It’s unlikely,” Gasol told ESPNLosAngeles.com following the Lakers’ 145-130 loss to the Houston Rockets on Tuesday when asked if he would play in any of the four remaining games this season. “But, I want to.”

Since coming over from Memphis at the 2008 trade deadline, Gasol has helped the Lakers to three straight final appearances and two championships.

With Gasol’s future with the franchise still unknown, he may have very well played his last game for the purple and gold. Regardless of whether Gasol suits up or not, expect Laker fans to give the two-time champion a standing ovation  in the Lakers’ final home game.

After having a down year playing alongside Dwight Howard last season, Gasol has had a nice turnaround averaging 17 points and 9.7 rebounds. While Gasol has made it known that he would like to sign with a contending team this off-season, he hasn’t ruled out a return to the Lakers.
