Up until this past June, former Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson had a ceremonial vice presidential role with the team. That role was removed though, as Johnson is very opinionated about the team and ownership via social media, and there was some confusion over whether his statements were representing the franchise or himself.

While he no longer is involved with the Lakers organization, Johnson joined with Guggenheim Partners and Stan Kasten in a bid for ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers in Jan. 2012. Johnson is now considered by many as the face of the Dodgers ownership group and has often been seen at Dodgers events.

Most recently, Johnson was spotted at the team’s photo day, where he joined the team in honoring Dodgers legendary broadcaster Vin Scully. All the members of the team and staff held up pictures of Scully’s face over their own for the picture, as Scully is in his 67th and final season with the organization.

Along with the Dodgers, Johnson is also involved with the ownership of the Los Angeles Sparks and the Major League Soccer expansion team Los Angeles Football Club, which will join the MLS beginning in 2018.

Johnson led the Lakers to five NBA Championships in his 13-year NBA career, including in 1988 when the Dodgers also won a World Series Championship, making Los Angeles the only city to have an NBA team and an MLB to win the championship in the same year.
