Los Angeles Lakers legend James Worthy turned 53-years-old today and continues to be a big part of Lakers games on a nightly basis as an analyst for Time Warner Cable SportsNet.

As arguably one of the greatest players to have ever played the game, James Worthy left an unforgettable legacy as one of the key members of the Showtime era for the Los Angeles Lakers. Although Worthy wasn’t with the team for all five titles won with Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the UNC alum played a major role in the three titles in 1985, 1987-88.

Along with being a three-time NBA champion, Worthy also was an All-Star seven times and earned NBA Finals MVP honors in 1988. Worthy had arguably the best performances of his career during the 1988 NBA Finals, helping the Lakers get the best of the Isiah Thomas’ Detroit Pistons.

As a result of his incredible career with the Lakers from 1982 to 1994, Worthy’s No. 42 jersey hangs in the rafters at Staples Center along with fellow teammates Jamaal Wilkes, Magic and Kareem.
