Abdul-Jabbar also won six MVP awards during his time in the league, and at the time of his retirement he led the league in points scored, games played, minutes played, field goals made, field goal attempts, blocked shots and defensive rebounds. That’s not too bad of a resume.

Since retiring from the NBA in 1989, Abdul-Jabbar has written several books, starred in multiple films and has been a cultural ambassador for the United States.

So, from all of Lakers Nation, a very happy birthday to the man known as The Captain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
