One player that might be available at the seven spot in this year’s draft is Arizona’s Aaron Gordon.

As one of the most athletic young players in the draft, Gordon could potentially have a bright future in the NBA and could be an intriguing selection for the Lakers. Gordon provides all the tools for a player that flourishes in the way the game is played today and the former Wildcat seems to have taken a shine to Los Angeles, according to his comments in an interview with Tzvi Twersky of SlamOnline.com:

After Sac, I went to L.A straight. I love L.A. It’s a great city, and I have family and friends out there. I get a good vibe from L.A.

I worked out in L.A. for the Lakers. I thought it was going to be an individual workout but it ended up being a competition workout. I got to workout with James Young, Doug McDermott, Davion Berry, Elfrid Payton, etc. That was fun. I haven’t played against other people in a while; I’ve just been doing individual lab work.

With only a couple of weeks left until the draft on June 26, rumors have begun to circulate that the Lakers may be considering trading their lottery pick. The team could target an All-Star caliber frontcourt player, but it remains uncertain how intent the team might be in trading for a proven veteran rather than drafting a promising youngster like Gordon.

The one big-name that has been linked to the Lakers constantly over the past few months has been Kevin Love. The Minnesota Timberwolves will likely be forced to trade Love at some point between the draft and the NBA trade deadline next season.

With the Timberwolves knowing that Love intends to leave in free agency next summer, it will force the team’s hand, but it seems doubtful the Lakers can acquire the star forward with their lottery pick being their only trade asset.

Other draft prospects that might be in play for the Lakers with the seventh pick could be Noah Vonleh, Marcus Smart and Julius Randle.
