Lakers News And Rumors Recap: L.A. To Sign Donatas Motiejunas?

To say the Lakers have lost their early season magic would be an understatement. After starting the season 10-10, the Lakers have lost 14 of their next 16 games, and are currently tied for the most losses in the NBA (they’ve played the most games as well).

The team has been ravaged with injuries during their current losing streak and Larry Nance Jr. is expected to miss the next four weeks with a bone bruise in his knee. In his absence, the Lakers have reportedly looked to add free agent Donatas Motiejunas.

The veteran big man was in a stand-off with the Houston Rockets before the team eventually let him out of restricted free-agency. The Lakers worked Motiejunas out earlier this week and are considering adding him to the roster, but are concerned with whether adding another big man would limit minutes for Julius Randle and Tarik Black.

Motiejunas is a proven stretch big man that could become a key part of Luke Walton’s offense. The Lakers have lacked space and shooting from their big men as none of Mozgov, Randle, Black, Nance or Robinson are cause for concern when away from the basket. Motiejunas shot 36.8% from three during the 2014-15 season before succumbing to an injury riddled campaign last year.

Adding another shooter and high IQ player could play dividends for a struggling Lakers team. With 10 day contracts becoming available soon, don’t be shocked if the Lakers add Motiejunas.
