In what has been an already disappointing summer for the Lakers, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. The Lakers’ Summer League is set to start on July 12 in Las Vegas against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Laker fans can now take their minds off Dwight Howard leaving for Houston. Some head coaches elect to coach their young, developing players in the summer league to get a better feel for their skills, Mike D’Antoni has chosen otherwise.

According to ESPN Los Angeles’ Dave McMenamin, Lakers assistant coach Dan D’Antoni will be dong the head coaching for the Lakers’ summer team.

As the Lakers’ NBA team is still trying to fill its full roster, it is understandable that Mike D’Antoni is more focused on filling those holes than coaching and developing players on the summer team.

Lakers second round pick and only draft pick Ryan Kelly will not be participating in Summer League, as he is still recovering from a foot injury.

The summer team is still trying to fill its roster so hopefully they can bring in some young talent that can impress Lakers management and find himself a spot with the Lakers.
