The Los Angeles Lakers have some big plans for the summer when free agents such LeBron James, Paul George, and DeMarcus Cousins will be available. In fact, the latest rumors have the Lakers putting Cousins near the top of their wish list, and with good reason.
He is one of the most versatile centers in the game, with the ability to bang in the post and also step outside to shoot the three. Cousins is also a surprisingly adept passer, making him an intriguing fit in the Lakers’ lineup.
Of course, there would be some concerns regarding Cousins’ temperament and how he would behave on a young Los Angeles team. He has a reputation for being less-than-agreeable, which isn’t an ideal personality to have around impressionable players. Still, the talent is undeniable, and if George or James were to join him, the Lakers would instantly vault into title contention.
Julius Randle, meanwhile, is heading towards restricted free agency and is rumored to be on the trade block. However, the Lakers well-known plans to keep their cap space free to chase superstars may be causing teams to rule out giving Los Angeles anything of value for him since it is believes they won’t match an offer if Randle signs elsewhere.
Yet, putting the pieces together, the Cousins rumor could actually breathe some life into Randle’s stay in L.A. The team reportedly would like to keep him if he survives the trade deadline, and doing so would be more financially feasible if they zero in on Cousins and George rather than James thanks to their lower max deals.
