Although the selection of Kentucky’s Julius Randle was the highlight of the night for the Lakers, Clarkson believes he is one of the best point guards in the draft if not the best, according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

With seven point guards taken ahead of Clarkson in the draft, the Missouri product has a fair amount of motivation fueling his competitive fire. Although Clarkson fell to 46, many believed he’d be a first-round pick and that which will add to the motivation heading into his rookie year with the Lakers.

Dante Exum (Utah Jazz), Marcus Smart (Boston Celtics), Elfrid Payton (Orlando Magic), Zach LaVine (Minnesota Timberwolves), Tyler Ennis (Phoenix Suns), Shabazz Napier (Miami Heat) and Spencer Dinwiddle (Detroit Pistons) were all selected before Clarkson.

The 22-year-old point guard will join Julius Randle on the Lakers’ Summer League roster if the team signs him before week’s end. Kendall Marshall will also be on the roster.
