The main topic of discussion in the NBA this week is the alleged racial comments made by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling. Everyone has chimed in about the Sterling scandal with quite a few former Lakers expressing their opinions on the topic including Magic Johnson and James Worthy.

The latest former Laker to address the Sterling scandal and the nationwide reaction is well known activist Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer said the following about the scandal in a piece he wrote for Time:

What bothers me about this whole Donald Sterling affair isn’t just his racism. I’m bothered that everyone acts as if it’s a huge surprise. Now there’s all this dramatic and very public rending of clothing about whether they should keep their expensive Clippers season tickets. Really? All this other stuff I listed above has been going on for years and this ridiculous conversation with his girlfriend is what puts you over the edge? That’s the smoking gun?

As Jabbar made abundantly clear, the six-time NBA champion is more upset at the fact that Sterling has had outbursts in the past and only now are people making a big deal about alleged comments made by the longtime NBA owner.

After a couple days of reviewing the tape obtained by TMZ, the NBA will hold a press conference on Tuesday to make an announcement about its investigation involving the owner. While the Clippers took off their warmups and turned their shirts inside out in Game 4, it’ll be interesting to see what they do in their first home game since the alleged comments.
