Despite their poor record, the Lakers have been in a number of close games this season that they just haven’t been able to pull out in the end.

It is one of the growing pains of a young team, to learn how to win close games, especially on the road. And the Lakers haven’t figured it out yet.

Lakers point guard Kendall Marshall spoke to reporters on Time Warner Cable SportsNet, and according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters, held back nothing in talking about why the Lakers aren’t a good team:

Marshall makes a very good point about the day-to-day effort of the Lakers. They have had close games with top teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami Heat, and Indiana Pacers. But they have also been blown out by less than stellar teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and the Utah Jazz.

No team is going to be at their best every single night, but if you are giving maximum effort on a regular basis, those close games tend to go in your favor more often than not.

The Lakers are far from a playoff team, but to be swept by the Milwaukee Bucks this season, who own the worst record in the NBA, says more about the Lakers than anything else.

The Lakers have proven that on any given night, they can hang with any team in the NBA, but too often they follow that up with a big letdown. Until that changes, the Lakers will continue to be where they are now.
