Lakers News: Kent Bazemore Calls MarShon Brooks A ‘Young Kobe’

After the Los Angeles Lakers had traded Steve Blake to the Golden State Warriors, fans in Los Angeles had no idea what to expect out of newcomers Kent Bazemore and MarShon Brooks.

Most believed both Brooks and Bazemore would be nothing more than two other players buried on the Lakers bench, but that has been far from the case. Although Bazemore has gotten his fair share of starts since being acquired by the Lakers, Brooks has taken a Nick Young-like role off the bench with the ability to light up the scoreboard.

After the win over the Sacramento Kings on Friday, Bazemore made a bold statement about the teammate that accompanied him in the trade to Los Angeles saying the following according to Bleacher Report’s Kevin Ding:

Brooks scored 23 points in 26 minutes off the bench against the Kings. The newcomer was very efficient while on the floor, shooting 9-for-13 from the floor and going perfect from beyond the arc by hitting all three shots taken from distance.

Although there’s no telling what the future holds for many players on the current Lakers squad, Brooks is quickly making a case to either be retained in the off-season or to sign lucrative deal with another team.

As for Bazemore, the man who received most his recognition in the Bay Area for being Robert Sacre-like on the sidelines finished with 12 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Both players appear to be proving their worth in what seems to be an audition for a future with the Lakers or elsewhere in the NBA.
