Over the past few days, Kobe Bryant has been nursing a sprained right foot injury that has put his playing status for the season opener against the Dallas Mavericks in doubt. Newcomer Jodie Meeks will take his spot in the starting lineup if Kobe sits out on opening night at Staples Center.

Fortunately, Kobe believes there’s a good chance he’ll be on the floor against the Mavs tonight according to Mike Trudell of Lakers.com via Twitter:

With an 85 percent chance of playing, Kobe will likely suit up and be in the starting lineup. It’s hard to imagine that arguably the toughest player in the league and one of the toughest in NBA history in terms of playing through injuries will sit out opening night of the debut of this revamped Los Angeles Lakers squad.

There’s still plenty of time between now and tip-off that may very well change Kobe’s stance on playing tonight, but chances are that he’ll be on the floor and ready to lead the new-look Lakers to the first win of a potentially epic NBA season.
