Lakers News: Kobe’s Excited About Bringing The Band Back Together

971525_208188832670949_1544695461_nLast season, the Lakers arguably had the best starting five lineup in the NBA. They had four future Hall of Fame players and Dwight Howard, who has consistently been one of the top defenders in the league and is on track to becoming a Hall of Fame candidate. Nonetheless, that team did not come remotely close to living up to the expectations that were set for them, and in Lakerland that simply is unacceptable.

This summer the Lakers have watched two key players from last season leave Los Angeles for other teams. Most notably, Dwight Howard left to join James Harden and the Houston Rockets, but also Earl Clark will be signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers and former Lakers head coach Mike Brown. The departure of these two players along with the Lakers’ current salary conditions have left Laker fans and management searching for answers.

The Lakers have since signed veteran center and former Dallas Maverick Chris Kaman to a one-year deal, using their mini mid-level exception, but what seems to be the signing that has gotten not only Laker fans excited, but Kobe Bryant excited as well, is the signing of former Lakers point guard Jordan Farmar.

Farmar was originally drafted by the Lakers in 2006 with their first round pick, 26th overall. He was part of both the 2009 and 2010 championship teams for the Lakers. However, Farmar is not the only former Laker that has Kobe excited. Fan favorite and former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award winner Lamar Odom has been in the middle of rumors that suggest that he is considering re-signing with the Lakers.

What most are considering to be a down season for the Lakers, Kobe completely disagrees. Bringing the band back of the 2009-2010 teams is something that they could use to their advantage. Chemistry sure seems to rank high on Kobe’s lists of importance, something that last year’s team lacked tremendously.

At his annual basketball camp at UC Santa Barbara, Kobe said:

“Isn’t that something. It’s amazing. Its kind of like the cycle of sports.  Also, there is a lot to be said about chemistry. Understanding each other and knowing how to play with each other. That’s the most important thing about team sports.”

Kobe was very happy discussing the possibility of bringing the band back to Los Angeles. He believes that with most of the last championship squad, the Lakers can compete with any team in the NBA. Just listening to him one can tell that this is something that he wants to happen next season and feels will be more than just a reunion tour.
