Lakers News: Lakers First Meeting with Houston Rockets Scheduled

Kobe Bryant, Dwight HowardShortly after the news broke of the Los Angeles Lakers facing the two-time defending NBA champion Miami Heat on Christmas Day, the date for the team’s first game against Dwight Howard and the Houston Rockets was released according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:

As Kobe Bryant rehabilitates his torn Achilles tendon, there will undoubtedly be a date circled on his and the Los Angeles Lakers’ schedule: A Nov. 7 trip to Houston to meet the Rockets and center Dwight Howard.

The first matchup between the Lakers and Rockets will be away from Staples Center with Kobe Bryant’s status still up in the air. It was speculated that the season opener for the Lakers would be played against Dwight’s Rockets, but it seems the league wanted to give Kobe an extra week or so to get back on the floor scheduling the first meeting on Nov. 7.

As of right now, Kobe continues to make a miraculous recovery from surgery to repair his ruptured Achilles tendon, but there’s no telling whether or not he’ll be good to go for the team’s first game in Houston.

All reports indicated Kobe making a return to the basketball floor much sooner than anticipated. Lakers Executive VP Jim Buss believes Kobe may return as early as the preseason, but realistically it would be more like the end of November or early December.

Although it may be a stretch for Kobe to return to the floor in time for this game against Dwight’s Rockets in Houston, it’d be safe to safe Kobe will be using the date of Nov. 7 as motivated to return. It’ll be interesting to see if Kobe is ultimately circling this date to return and whether or not he’ll actually be able to make it happen.
