KB 24 JERSEYThe Los Angeles Lakers are one of, if not the, most recognizable franchise in the NBA. The team’s popularity has always been quite high no matter where in the world you look.

Thanks to the 16 championship banners hanging from Staples Center and the legendary players who have worn the purple and gold armor over the years, there is something special about the Lakers that not many teams will ever understand.

ESPN’s Paul Lukas recently ranked teams based on their jersey designs, and he put the Lakers at the number two spot, one behind their arch rival, the Boston Celtics. Luckas had this to say about the purple and gold uniforms:

Ideally, a uniform should be viewed in a vacuum, strictly on the basis of its aesthetics. But every now and then there’ll be a team that’s so consistently successful on the field (or the court, or the ice) that it creates an aura of quality about the entire franchise, an aura that can extend to the team’s uniforms. The Lakers fall into that category. Are their uniforms really so good, or do they just seem that way? Either way, they’ve achieved that rarefied status reserved for upper-echelon designs. The only fly in the ointment is the white alternate uni. Come on, guys, you used to be special because you were the only team in the league without a white uni.

The Lakers moved up one spot from their position last year, while the Celtics were at the top of the list for yet another season. Rounding out the top five on ESPN’s list are the San Antonio Spurs (3), Utah Jazz (4) and the Golden State Warriors (5).

What do you make of the list Lakers Nation?
