Lakers News: Mark Madsen Close To Becoming D-League Head Coach

Former Lakers center Mark Madsen is close to becoming the next head coach of the D-League Los Angeles Defenders. Madsen has spent the past season working in Palo Alto as an assistant coach at Stanford.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Madsen might be on his way back to Los Angeles:

In his two years with the Lakers, Madsen won two championships, but was better known for his dance moves at the championship parades.

The Defenders are in the market for a new head coach since Reggie Theus accepted the head coaching job at Cal-State Northridge. While not many people follow the Defenders’ progress, the team has a knack of developing good players like Gerald Green and seeing them excel in the NBA.

Madsen has a real opportunity to develop his coaching skills as former Defenders head coach Eric Musselman reached the NBA after coaching the team.

During his career in the NBA, Madsen averaged 2.2 points and 2.6 rebounds, but he was on NBA rosters for his energy and personality.
