There is an exciting but unique feeling going into this year’s playoffs, which start on Sunday in San Antonio for the Lakers. While the fans are relieved the roller coaster of a regular season is over, the Lakers are heading into the postseason without Kobe Bryant.

To make up for Kobe’s absence on the court, the entire team must rise to the occasion. However, fans and the basketball community are looking to Dwight Howard to not only dominate on the court, but to be that leader on and off the court that Kobe represents as well.

Dwight’s teammates are expecting the same. Metta World Peace went on The Max Kellerman and Marcellus Wiley Show on ESPN710 Radio on Friday, and stated:

Howard was traded to the Lakers to not only help this team win, but as a representation of the future after Kobe. While Kobe is certainly not done yet, his absence due to injury will be a chance for Dwight to show the fans and the basketball world a glimpse of the future.

It’s safe to say that all eyes will be on Dwight in this first round match-up with the Spurs, even though the entire team must collectively step-up. The series begins with Game 1 on Sunday afternoon.
