Steve Nash’s time in Los Angeles has been a disappointment. Struggling with injuries, Nash has rarely resembled the player he was during his time in Phoenix.

Nash is one of the few Lakers who will still be under contract after this season, but there has been speculation about whether or not he will play beyond this year because of the constant injuries.

General Manager Mitch Kupchak spoke to the media, and according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters, knows Nash’s situation is a difficult one:

Everyone loves Nash and admires how hard he is working to get back on the floor. Unfortunately, he just can’t seem to stay healthy.

With a very big off-season coming up, the Lakers are in position to make some major changes with the amount of cap room they have, but whether or not Nash will play next season plays a big role in what they will do.

Kupchak referring to Nash’s future as a ‘challenge’ is interesting wording as it could speak to a number of things. On Nash’s side, just getting back on the floor or deciding whether to retire after this year is a major challenge. On the Lakers side, Nash’s salary counting against the cap or deciding whether to use the stretch provision on his contract is also a challenge.

Nash is a very interesting case as he obviously wants to be on the floor helping the Lakers. What he and the Lakers decide will be very interesting to watch.
