Lakers News: Nick Young Sprains Ankle In Practice, Status Uncertain

The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t even got their preseason underway and the team is already dealing with injuries.

During practice on Thursday afternoon, Nick Young suffered a sprained ankle according to Mark Medina of LA Daily News via Twitter:

Young was arguably the biggest free agent addition to the Lakers roster in the off-season. Many believed the team had little chance of landing Young in free agency with the team having limited options in terms of offering a contract to Young, but the USC alum decided to return to Los Angeles regardless.

Losing Young for the start of the preseason could prove costly as the 28-year-old attempts to prove his worth to the team. Young may be in consideration for a starting role at the small forward position or strictly as the team’s best man off the bench.

With Young potentially out for the first two preseason games this weekend against the Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets, Wesley Johnson will have an opportunity to shoulder the load. Shawne Williams may also get some time at small forward if Young is unable to go.
