It’s been a relatively quiet off-season for Lakers forward Pau Gasol who underwent a FAST knee procedure a few weeks ago in an effort to alleviate tendonitis in his knees.

Gasol dealt with tendonitis all season as 2012-13 was the toughest season for the Spaniard. He averaged only 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds in only 49 games. This afternoon, Gasol met with the doctor that performed the surgery and provided an update after the check-up via Twitter.

So far, the Lakers’ off-season has focused on re-signing Dwight Howard and not about where Gasol might wind up. Kobe Bryant tweeted his support for Gasol and doesn’t want the Lakers to ship away one of his closest friends on the team.

Regardless, it’s good to see that Gasol is getting healthy as his play down the stretch was reminiscent of his play during the Lakers two championships with him as the main sidekick.

Throughout the season, Gasol struggled under head coach Mike D’Antoni’s system and was often out of position, shooing jump shots instead of playing with his back to the basket.

Along with the knee tendonitis, Gasol battled through a concussion and plantar fasciites as 2012-13 was the toughest season of his Hall of Fame career. While he isn’t the same player he was a couple years ago, Gasol is still one of the most talented big men in the game.

When D’Antoni finally understood how to use Gasol, he was able to average 17.5 points and 12.1 rebounds for the last month of the season. It’s clear that Kobe and Lakers fans want Gasol back next season, but it’s great to see that his knee issues should be behind him come next season.
