One of the more unexpected surprises of this Los Angeles Lakers season was the play of veteran point guard Ronnie Price. Signed just before the start of training camp, Price wasn’t expected to play a major role, but eventually became a starter and favorite of head coach Byron Scott.

Price, however, has dealt with a nagging elbow injury for some time now and according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters, is now set to have surgery on that right elbow on Wednesday:

The surgery is to remove a bone spur in that elbow. According to Winters, the plan was originally to have the surgery after the season:

Price wasn’t the best offensive player, but his attitude and toughness on the defensive end really set the tone for a young Lakers team that isn’t always locked in on that end. It was that grit that endeared him to Scott.

With no timetable set on Price’s return, it clears the way for all of the point guard minutes to be split between Jeremy Lin and Jordan Clarkson. Scott experimented with playing all three players in the Lakers recent victory over the Boston Celtics.
