Lakers News & Rumors Recap: Can The Lakers Keep It Together?

Washington Wizards v Los Angeles LakersTomorrow is the first day that free agents can officially sign contracts. Dwight Howard has left Los Angeles and the Rockets’ hasty decision in mentioning the big man’s official status in Houston cost them $150 thousand. CP3 is known to be going to the Clippers, but the team can’t officially announce anything till tomorrow. Expect the internet to be a flutter with who is signing and who isn’t.

The news about Chris Kaman surfaced yesterday. But what was surprising was how dedicated he actually was in coming to Los Angeles; Kaman decided to take considerably less money to come play in Los Angeles for the Lakers. Now that is dedication. Kaman is expected to provide a good backup center role behind Pau Gasol. He is a solid rebounder and low post scorer. Kaman has a career average of 11.8 ppg, 8.0 rpg, and 1.4 bpg. The one-year contract for Kaman allows the Lakers to save money and cap room for 2014.

There is the potential the Lakers amnesty forward Metta World Peace, saving them 30 million dollars. In an interview with Metta’s longtime friend, Jose Morales, Morales stated that if Metta couldn’t return to L.A. this coming season, he would love to play for the Knicks. A New York native, this decision makes sense.

Suki Thind of Lakers Nation wrote a piece today cataloging the positives behind signing Lamar Odom. Odom is likely not the same player he was a few years ago, but the limitations with the salary cap could make him a sensible pick. Check out the post to read up what else Suki sees in Odom.

Who’s excited to see D’Antoni coach next season? What about this summer? Gotcha! Not Mike, but his new assistant coach brother Dan D’Antoni will coach the Lakers’ summer league team. The Lakers’ Summer League is set to start on July 12 in Las Vegas against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
