Lakers News & Rumors Recap: Metta Tricks, Then Shocks, Fans

mettaMetta World Peace had fans anxiously waiting for some big news this morning, only to receive information that was less than fabulous. The news? He and Terrell Owens will be staring in a reality TV show together. Except that they won’t. Terrell Owens was one of the best NFL pass catchers and blew through almost $70 million dollars to go bankrupt, so reality TV seems to be where the former NFL player is getting his paychecks. Third time must be the charm…

Surprisingly, later in the day Metta did announce some exciting new; World Peace decided to exercise his player option to remain with the Lakers for next season. The Lakers vet should be back in purple and gold next year if the team doesn’t use their amnesty option. The Lakers have until July 16 to decide whether or not to use this provision of the new CBA on World Peace.

Pau Gasol is also on the Lakers’ front office radar, as he too is able to be dropped from the team via L.A.’s amnesty option. It looks as though the big man may also be traded. Pau is due $19.3 million next season, a tough amount for the Lakers to pay to the aging star with the looming luxury tax penalties they are facing. The front office is focusing on keeping Dwight Howard, which will more than likely send Gasol packing. With Gasol struggling under D’Antoni’s system last year, he appears to be ill-fit for the current Lakers’ team. Expect a move in July.
