Steve Nash turns 40 this season, but claims he is nowhere near retirement. He plans on doing all he can for the Lakers this year, and he is determined to let things just fall into place for the rest of his career:

“I want to concentrate on this season and have a great season and then next year I’ll worry about next year. After that there’s a chance I could keep playing, but I’m totally open to not playing or playing again and I don’t really want to predict. I just want to concentrate on the now and worry about the future when it arrives.”

Yasiel Puig visited the Lakers facilities yesterday and took the time to share his time there by way of numerous Instagram pictures. This came before Kobe Bryant was spotted at Dodger Stadium last night and hanging out with the recent Dodger phenom. Looks like the two are getting to be amazing buddies.

Speaking of the Dodgers, have I got a goodie for L.A. sports fans! During the basketball offseason, if you are anything like me and my friends, you’re reppin’ your classic blue Dodger hat and a few other “bleed blue” items all around town. Well, on September 12, the Dodgers will be participating in Magic Johnson bobblehead night to combine everyone’s love of the Lakers with their love of the Dodgers. Don’t miss out!

Ossie Schectman has died at the age of 94. Born March 30, 1919, Schectman is the first person to score a basket in an NBA game. He played one season for the New York Knicks and made history against the Toronto Huskies on November 1, 1946. The Knicks won the game 68–66. He averaged 8.1 pts and 2.0apg  in his one year playing for New York.

Throwback Thursday at Lakers Nation doesn’t mean collecting the writers’ baby photos and posting them on Instagram (although we should), but rather sharing with you some of the memorable moments in purple and gold history. Twenty-five years ago, James Worthy became the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double in a Game 7 of the Finals, when he put up 36 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists in the Lakers 108-105 victory over the Detroit Pistons. Worthy was named Finals MVP during that Lakers championship year and solidified himself as one of the greatest L.A. big men.

The Nike 3on3 Tournament, held from August 9-11 with courts all around L.A. Live, is right around the corner and you still have an opportunity to sign your team up at a discounted rate by using the discount code LAKERSNATION. You can register here. Lakers Nation is also partnering up with Nike Basketball 3on3 to give one lucky team free registration to the Nike 3on3 tournament (valued at $180) along with a few other awesome prizes. Check out how to win here.
