Dwight Howard JPGWith bits and pieces of the schedule coming out, Lakers fans discovered that the purple and gold would be facing the Miami Heat on Christmas Day. But I am sure the game on the back of everyone’s minds was that against the Houston Rockets and former Lakers player Dwight Howard. The first matchup between the Lakers and Rockets will be an away game on Nov. 7. Hope goes out for Kobe Bryant that he will have recovered by then.

The season opener is said to be against the Clippers, which will be a great way to start the season for L.A. fans. The Clippers will begin the year as the defending Pacific Division champions.

The Los Angeles Lakers have expressed interest in free agent Austin Day, as he worked out for the team on Wednesday. Daye played his first four seasons in the league with the Pistons and went to Russia to play BC Khimki during the 2011 NBA lockout. The team has only two spots remaining on their roster for guaranteed contracts after signing free agents Chris Kaman, Nick Young, Jordan Farmar and Wesley Johnson.

On Wednesday, Kobe Bryant announced a new contest on his social media accounts that is meant to raise awareness and monetary support to benefit KVBFF and Sports Spectacular’s campaign to fight homelessness. With this campaign, the winner will have a chance to personally meet with Kobe Bryant on top of other rewards. Check out the details here.

Lakers Nation takes a look back at Shaquille O’Neal’s top five moments in purple and gold. During his time in Los Angeles, O’Neal delivered three consecutive championships and also earned three Finals MVP awards at the beginning of the decade. In his eight-year career with the Lakers, O’Neal averaged 27.0 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks. See which moments we chose here.
