Today, the Lakers released an update of Nash’s injury, which included results from a recent MRI performed on Nash to discover the severity of his injury. According to the Lakers:

El Segundo – Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Nash underwent an MRI exam, which confirmed several preexisting issues related to his hip and back, which are causing nerve irritation and contributing to his hamstring pain and weakness. Nash received an epidural injection this morning, and will not play in tomorrow night’s game against the Houston Rockets. It is hopeful that he will be able to return to play in the next several days.”

Therefore, Nash will remain sidelined for the Lakers’ closing game of their 2012-2013 regular season. Wednesday’s game against Houston is a pivotal game for the Lakers, as a win would guarantee a playoff spot for the purple and gold.

Not only would a playoff spot be secured in a win over the Rockets, but it would give L.A. the seventh seed in the Western Conference as well. This would mean that the Lakers would face the San Antonio Spurs in the first round.

Nash has missed 32 games (including tomorrow) this season for the Lakers due to various injuries. The Lakers seem hopeful that Nash will return to the court in time for the postseason.

Steve Blake will continue to replace Nash in the starting lineup and will be joining Jodie Meeks, who is starting for the injured Kobe Bryant, in the backcourt for Wednesday’s meaningful game against Houston.
