On Friday night against the San Antonio Spurs, Mike D’Antoni felt Steve Nash couldn’t come back into the game and the Lakers lost a winnable game. After expressing disappointment in his own performance after the loss, Steve Nash was given the chance in tonight’s game against the Atlanta Hawks.
With the game close in the fourth quarter, Steve Nash played fairly well to help the Lakers win 105-103. After finishing the game with 13 points and six assists, Nash discussed what he’s been going through the past couple of games, but feels like he can still contribute:
“I’m hanging in there. It’s slowing coming around. It’s a bit of a struggle lately. I feel like I can still contribute and make things happen and I also feel like I can improve as the season goes on.”
While he has been dealing with nagging injuries to start the season, Nash wants to keep fighting for his teammates:
“I’m still optimistic and enjoying it, and want to keep fighting for my teammates.”
With many questioning whether or not Nash can still contribute and the possibility that he’s already on the trading block, Nash showed that he is still capable of making shots and creating for others tonight. While his minutes will still be limited and he can only play the first game of back-to-backs, Nash needs to be productive when he’s on the floor.
In four games this season, Nash is averaging seven points and five assists while shooting 31 percent from the field. As Nash continues to get into game shape, he should be able to have more performances like tonight despite turning 40-years-old in February.
