The NBA trade deadline is rapidly approaching with the Los Angeles Lakers appearing to be as active as any team in the league. Although signs appear to be pointing to the Lakers making a move before the deadline on Thursday, rookie Jordan Clarkson likely won’t be going anywhere, according to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times:

At this point in time, the Lakers are in the running to land Goran Dragic of the Phoenix Suns before the deadline. Dragic let it be known that he will not be re-signing with the Suns and wants to be traded or he’ll leave the team in free agency this summer.

With Dragic a target of the Lakers all season long, the team has engaged their division rivals in trade talks. Although Dragic may come at a high price, Los Angeles has been named as one of the veteran point guard’s preferred destinations.

Fortunately for Clarkson, the rookie out of Missouri has done enough in his first season to convince the Lakers brass of his potential. Clarkson was the 48th overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft. Los Angeles purchased the pick from the Washington Wizards and may have gotten a steal with the rookie showing promise after being given a starting role.
