Lakers Not Looking to Add Point Guard in Nash’s Absence

The Los Angeles Lakers will be without Steve Nash for at least one week due to a fracture in his left fibula, leaving them without one of their key acquisitions this off-season.  Los Angeles went 0-3 with Nash in the lineup, but finally broke the cold streak Sunday night with Nash on the sideline.

The Lakers already have five point guards on their team at this point, and adding a sixth for a short period of time does not make much sense. For now Steve Blake will fill Nash’s void in the starting lineup, and he did a great job running the show during the Lakers’ win over the Detroit Pistons.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the Lakers front-office will likely wait for Nash to return and is not looking to make any moves for the time that he is out.

The Los Angeles Lakers have no plans to sign a point guard as they wait for Steve Nash to recover from a small fracture in his left leg.

Nash will miss between one and four weeks.

Former Lakers point guard Derek Fisher is currently looking for a team and even though he is no longer a capable starting point guard, his services are always welcome. Fisher has the ability to knock down key shots and his chemistry with Kobe Bryant is a bond that cannot be broken.

Fisher was a part of the Lakers’ recent two championships and he can give some productive minutes for this current team. However, once Nash returns the bench will be completely overwhelmed with point guards. Perhaps in the future the Lakers will go after Fisher, but at this point the roster will remain the same.
