On day two of training camp, head coach Byron Scott had his team scrimmaging and running layup drills at the end of practice. Scott estimated that this morning’s practice consisted of just about “10 percent” offense.

Both Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash looked great scrimmaging and Bryant echoed that same sentiment after practice. Ryan Kelly sat out of this morning’s practice with a moderate left hamstring strain, while Xavier Henry sat out for the second day in a row with back spasms.

After practice, Scott was asked about how the rookies Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson were holding up in practice, to which he emphasized them both needing repetition in order to become comfortable on the floor:

He (Julius Randle) looks okay. He’s a rookie, still a long ways to go. I think the game right now is just a little too fast for him. He’s going to put the work in, I know that about him.”

Scott also said he’s really liking what he’s seeing from Jeremy Lin, singled out his ability to push the ball in the open floor. While catching his breath, Lin told reporters that Scott’s training camp has already been the most difficult of any training camp he’s experienced:

This one’s the hardest one, definitely. One, the length, very long. Two, I think it’s very intensive towards defense and running and that just takes it’s toll on your body.”

The Lakers, with the exception of Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and the couple sitting out due to injury, will participate in a second practice Wednesday evening, before returning to the court Thursday morning for their third practice day.
