The Lakers have been very careful about saving as much cap room as possible for the next two off-seasons. There are a number of big name free agents and one who has continually been linked to the team is Kevin Love.

There have been a number of rumors about Love wanting to be a Laker, and the team has already tried to make moves to obtain him via trade.

Love will be a free agent after the 2015 season, and according to the New York Times’ Frank Isola, Love will be choosing between the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves once he hits the market:

There are some interesting names out there including Kevin Love, who can become a free agent in 2015. But the word is Love will either re-sign with Minnesota or head to the Lakers, which sounds more plausible.

The Lakers seem to be going all-in on the idea of acquiring Love, and possibly Kevin Durant in the summers of 2015 and 2016. Just getting Love will undoubtedly help the Lakers turn things around fairly quickly.

Love will have an interesting decision to make when he hits free agency. The Timberwolves, on paper, have a better roster right now than the Lakers with Nikola Pekovic, Ricky Rubio, and Kevin Martin all being key pieces.

Joining the Lakers would be believing in the ability of Mitch Kupchak to build a championship caliber team around him, which he has a history of doing.

All signs are beginning to point to the summer of 2015, not 2014, being the time when the Lakers make their big moves.
