Lakers Rumors: Kevin Love Won’t Commit to Extension With Timberwolves

In a recent interview with 1500ESPN.com Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love made a few interesting comments that may stir some debate in the future.

Firstly, Love stated that he considers himself the best power forward in the league. He went on to say that he won’t commit to signing an extension with the Timberwolves if they offer him a max contract.

“I believe I’m the best ‘4’ in the league,” Love said. “I think you have to believe that you’re the best. I think Muhammad Ali even said, ‘I was the greatest before I knew I was.’ I think everybody needs to have that mindset. That’s part of winning the mind game from the very start. You have to believe it. You have to hold yourself accountable.”

While the debate over the best power forward is one we can save for another time, the aspect of Love re-signing in Minnesota is a little more interesting. There’s no doubt Love is quickly becoming one of the best players in the league, and much like other superstars he may be looking for a little more flattering market.

So if Love announces that he won’t be re-signing in Minnesota it’s possible that the Timberwolves may look to trade him. If that’s the case there would be many suitors lining up to try and make a move for him.

Obviously the Lakers are already set at the power forward position with Pau Gasol, but Love’s ties to southern California make it an interesting proposition. Love, who went to UCLA for one year before entering the NBA Draft, probably wouldn’t be against a return to Los Angeles.

Still, Love hasn’t ruled out returning to Minnesota once his contract is up.

“I just don’t know what I am going to do,” he said. “I’m happy to be a Timberwolf at this point and happy we’re winning games.”
