Heading into free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers had high hopes of acquiring an All-Star caliber player with their projected $24 million in cap space. With the Lakers acquiring Roy Hibbert and signing Lou Williams, the team only has a $2.8 million exception.

While the Lakers have expressed interest in re-signing Jeremy Lin, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports the Dallas Mavericks are looking at sign-and-trade options for Lin:

After the Lakers were unable to land Carmelo Anthony last summer, the franchise moved to Plan B which started with trading for Lin and a first round draft pick (Larry Nance Jr.). While Lin initially struggled, he played well to finish the season.

After signing DeAndre Jordan, the Mavericks are looking to upgrade their point guard position. With the Lakers signing Williams to go along with D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson, a sign-and-trade may be in the works to send Lin to Dallas.
