Lakers Rumors & News Recap: Critques and a Little Nostalgia

Everything is just coming up roses for the Lakers these past few days which has a flutter of news pouring into Lakers Nation. But even with the Dwight Howard excitement, there have been a few naysayers who have doubts as to the functionality of this year’s team. These range from ideas of the Lakers being too old to the actual dynamics of the organization.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of the greatest centers in NBA history and currently holds the title of leading scorer in the league. The Lakers won five national championships with this UCLA alum, who was one of the greatest coaches of all time, John Wooden. With these credentials, it would be hard to argue with his opinion on the game, but as it stands, Kareem has one major issue with the current L.A. Lakers; chemistry. Essentially, in order to become successful this season, the Lakers need to perfect their chemistry. And he is right; you can have the best players possible but if their style of play and attitude do not mesh well, outcomes could be disastrous.

If you are curious as to what else Lakers legend Kareem is thinking, Ramneet Singh wrote a great piece on Abdul-Jabbar’s comparison of Bynum and Howard’s work ethic. It is interesting to see what differences Bynum or Howard could have made for the team.

Lakers Nation has brought you a wonderful three piece segment on Lakers pop culture, which continues by celebrating the Lakers franchise in the 1990s. The piece done by Andrew Ungvari gave me a chuckle, especially with the YouTube scene from “Good Burger.” But there are far more details to reminisce about. We all remember the 90s when Shaq and Kobe were BFFs, the Lakers were referenced in Biggie Smalls raps, and Kobe decided to rock his mini ‘fro. Oh, and how could I forget, the greatest movie of all time, “Kazaam” that made Shaquille an…er…international film star.

What was your favorite Lakers 90’s moment??
