Lakers Rumors & News Recap: Gasol, Pau and More Pau Gasol

Lately, all that has been in the talks for this Lakers big man is whether or not he would remain on the team for next year. However, today seems to be a lot about Pau, and not just for his Lakers roster spot.

Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol co-own a horse named Siempre Mio (which means Always Mine) after a charity auction for the horse to help the Lakers youth foundation in April. Having never met the horse before, Pau finally got a chance to meet it this past weekend. So far, Siempre Mio has won $51,900 in prize money in 2012.

Pau was also awarded the 2011-12 Kia Community Assist Award for all his contributions off the floor, mainly with the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital. His love for the hospital this year grew, when on March 26, Pau Gasol officially partnered with a Barcelona-based global health care company called Grifols. This partnership was part of an effort to bring new technology to light here in Los Angeles. Grifols is based in Gasol’s native country of Spain, but there are U.S. headquarters in L.A. By winning the award, Pau will donate the $25,000 to the hospital given to him by the NBA and Kia. This is the first year the award has been introduced, and Pau had this to say:

“I am honored to receive the 2011-12 Kia Community Assist Award and thrilled that it will benefit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles,” said Gasol. “Supporting children’s health and wellness is my passion, and Children’s Hospital does a tremendous job of giving children with serious illnesses a chance to grow up and become healthy adults.”

For those of you who aren’t into the fluffy stuff, let’s get down to business. Today’s posts included a great article by Ramneet Singh on the top five Gasol trade possibilities.
