Lakers Rumors & News Recap: Hurricane Howard May Become a Light Drizzle

Dwight is never going to leave Orlando. As time goes on, with more back and forth, more trade headaches, more he said- she said, Howard will be less and less likely to m0ve anywhere.

The Magic won’t trade Dwight Howard unless the offer is perfect for new GM Rob Hennigan, and we all know these deals are never perfect. It is rare when two big teams’ desires align that simply. And if you still don’t agree with me, think about this; the Magic don’t have a head coach. Summer League has passed, training is beginning soon, and the season is coming up. Rather than focus all their attention on this messy Howard trade business, their time is better spent looking for someone to replace Stan Van Gundy. The team needs a head coach more than it needs to find Howard a home.

It seems as though the Orlando front office may toy with the idea of keeping Howard. Dwight does not want to play with the Magic, but the front office is willing to play another full season with their All-Star center. Howard will become a free agent come July 1st, 2013, and the Magic are prepared to keep him until that day. The Magic had offers from the Lakers, Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets, but no trade came about; this will be Orlando’s downfall. After forcing out the former GM and Head Coach, Dwight shows little respect for the Magic office and coaching staff. Coupled with him not wanting to be in Orlando, I can only picture the catastrophe that will be these Magic season if Howard remains on the roster. This Dwight drama is getting old.

In non-related Dwight news, the Lakers have shown interest in signing Roger Mason Jr. at a veteran’s minimum as a back-up guard for Kobe Bryant. The problem here may be the amount of money being offered to Mason, who expressed he was not returning to the Wizards over their veteran’s minimum offer. However, with the acquisition of Nash, a stronger bench with Jordan Hill and Antwan Jamison, and the chance to play for a real NBA championship contender, Mason may be persuaded to join the Lakers. Stay Tuned.
