Lakers Rumors & News Recap: Phil Jackson Knows How To Fix Lakers

philbackNBA free agency is about a month away with the verdict still out on whether or not superstar center Dwight Howard will re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers. Although the Dwight sweepstakes is in full swing with the Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets currently in the running to land the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent, there’s still no telling whether or not Dwight will be staying or going.

In the meantime, Phil Jackson has been doing the rounds while promoting his new book, Eleven Rings. While Jackson has been reflecting on his days as a head coach with the Lakers and Chicago Bulls, the Zen Master has also been chiming in on the current situation with the Lakers and what direction the team should be taking moving forward.

Most Lakers fans, if not all Lakers fans, want Jackson back coaching the team, but the 11-time NBA champion has been adamant about not returning to coaching with any team in the league. Although that stance may change in the coming months, right now it appears that Jackson is done and won’t be returning to the sidelines for the Lakers.

Jackson believes the Lakers should be going to their strength in the paint. The storied franchise currently has the most intimidating and most talented frontcourt in the league with the two-headed monster of Dwight and Pau Gasol. Head coach Mike D’Antoni hasn’t been able to figure out a way to use both players on the floor at the same time leading to speculation that Gasol may have played his last game for Los Angeles.

It remains to be seen whether or not Gasol or D’Antoni or both will be gone before next season, but it’s hard to argue with Jackson’s opinion on the matter.
